James Stirling 1950–1974: Bauten und Projekte is a partly bilingual monograph of James Stirling’s key works. The introduction by John Jacobus is in German, but the project descriptions and image captions written by James Stirling are both in German and in English. The book is richly illustrated with architectural drawings and black-and-white photographs. The book was published by Verlag Gerd Hatje Stuttgart in 1975; the layout design is by Leon Krier and James Stirling himself.
The book includes a chronological list of all Stirling’s works and projects until 1974 and a more detailed study of selected highlights. The projects include the acclaimed History Faculty Library at the University of Cambridge, the Florey Building accommodation block for The Queen’s College in Oxford, Sheffield University building, Leicester University Engineering Building, the Olivetti headquarters in Milton Keynes, private villas, housing design and much more.
